Ruins and charred car in Oradour sur Glane

As part of the HGGSP specialty program (History-Geography, Geopolitics and Political Science) our Terminale students went to Oradour-sur-Glane just before the Christmas holidays. In connection with the theme "History & Memory" the objective of the teaching team is to allow students to go to a symbolic place of the Second World War in France. It also allows them to become aware of the importance of transmitting history and memory issues.

House ruins in Oradour

To visit Oradour-sur-Glane is to discover for yourself the history of this martyred village. On June 10, 1944 a Nazi unit of the SS division "Das Reich" massacred the inhabitants and burned the village. Only ruins remain after the abuses committed. Babies, children, women and men… The soldiers murdered 643 people. Some survivors (six) will be able to testify to the horror experienced and ensure a work of memory.
